Pianist Barron Ryan Decides Not To Quit Music This Year

Barron Ryan

PRESS RELEASE
For immediate release: September 9, 2022

TULSA, Okla. — Pianist and composer Barron Ryan is celebrating his 35th birthday by announcing that he will not change careers at this point in his life. The issue had been in doubt since his 30th birthday, when the musician released a video stating that if he hadn’t become a professionally viable artist within five years, he would “Do something else.”

Success as a visionary artist is notoriously elusive. Innovators are often treated with skepticism by audiences, who may expect musicians to ‘play something they know’ or quizzically ask instrumentalists, “Do you sing?” Creating demand for new music is a grinding, difficult task.

“I strive to discover and present forms of beauty that people don’t even know are possible,” Ryan says. “It takes tremendous effort to learn how to convey that work to the public. Then you have to do it over and over again, until enough people believe in your vision.”

But now, enough people believe in Ryan’s vision. Since his 2017 proclamation, he has become a commissioned composer, toured extensively across the United States, been featured nationally on CBS Sports, and been named one of Ten Innovators to Watch by Smithsonian Magazine. He attributes his success to the strong support for his work.

“I don’t have a record label, and I don’t have investors,” Ryan iterates. “But I do have staggeringly generous patrons who promote my music by listening, sharing, and contributing. They were especially vital through COVID-19 concert cancelations—making it possible for me to keep producing art. I sincerely thank them for the ability to share beauty into my 36th year and beyond.”

Ryan is also marking the occasion by updating his image. He’s emphasizing the latter part of his Classic Meets Cool tagline with new brand visuals and photos that convey an edgier look.

“My previous logo was perfect for the jazz and ragtime music I was playing at the time,” he explains. “But recently I’ve been looking more to the future with original compositions. The bold look of this new imagery helps reflect my evolution as an artist.”

Ryan feels exceedingly blessed to have flourished over the past five years, and is more optimistic than ever about his artistic future. He’s thankful to the team at Siegel Artist Management, the concert presenters who have invited him to perform, the creative artists who have lent their skills to his projects, and to the patrons who make it all possible. That includes you.

ABOUT BARRON RYAN

Barron Ryan’s love for music has always been divided. The son of two musicians, he grew up in a house filled with the sounds ranging from Mozart to Michael Jackson. So when it comes to his own music, he’s not content drawing on just one influence. He combines them all into a musical adventure that’s vintage yet fresh, historical yet hip, classic yet cool.

LET’S TALK

Barron is an independent artist who wants his music to spread far and wide. He’s happy to chat about his latest albums, his commissioned work commemorating the 1921 massacre in Tulsa, or how he found himself playing the kazoo and rapping. Get in touch using the Contact page.
