Sense of Urgency
Barron Ryan
Keyboard Confidential (KC) is just a year and a half old, and it's been no slouch so far. As you can see on my surprisingly popular Concert Map, it's appeared thirteen times in a total of six states (that's 12% percent of the country!). So as Kip from Napoleon Dynamite would say, I guess you could say things are getting pretty serious.
But there was a recurring problem I faced when talking with potential hosts. They liked the concept, but had no pressing need to host a private concert. There was no sense of urgency, which left me with a lot more possibilities than commitments.
Then through a combination of being around other entrepreneurs, reading more books, and increasing my fee (!), I realized something. KC needed to do more than be a terrific time for a small group of people—it needed to solve a problem. By doing so, it would be more valuable for prospective hosts, which means I'd get more bookings.
What problems can it solve? I'm so glad you asked. Here are they are:
- Gift Giving
- Expressing Thanks
- Celebrating Success
- Enriching Community
To communicate why KC is successful in those areas, I'm creating how-to guides for them. (If you want a peak at the Guide to Gift Giving rough draft, here it is.) Hopefully they'll educate people on what makes the series effective, make it easy for people to share about KC, and result in more immediate action. Here's to a booming year for Keyboard Confidential!
Update (March 24, 2015): The guides are done! Click here to view them on the new Keyboard Confidential page.
