I'm debuting a new tune for my Keyboard Confidential concert in Tulsa tomorrow, so today was the day to see if I can actually play it. So you get to hear me play 'On the Sunny Side of the Street' all the way through for the very first time.
If you haven't heard Erroll Garner's version of this song (which I'm replaying), you might think that my recording sounds fine. But when I listen, I hear A) a slow tempo, B) hesitancy, and C) a lack of direction. Don't worry, I'm not going to beat myself up about that.
Those issues will sort themselves out as I continue to practice, but it's essential to start playing through tunes as soon as I can, too. It's amazing how much performing in a high-pressure situation (like for an audience or recording) can help the mind process the music. Thanks for letting me practice for you, and here's to a successful live debut tomorrow!
